Project Overview
The client wanted to reclaim their garden and create a proper, dedicated space to work from home — not a shed conversion, but a real room. We designed and built a bespoke L-shaped garden room from the ground up: one wing for a fully functional home office, the other for clean, secure storage.
The result is a permanent, insulated, electrified outbuilding that feels like an extension of the home rather than something at the bottom of the garden.
Scope of Works
Concrete Base
Every build starts with the right foundations. We excavated and poured a full concrete base to support the structure — level, solid, and sized precisely to the L-shaped footprint. This is a step many garden room suppliers skip. We don’t.
Timber Frame Construction
The full structure was built using a timber frame, insulated throughout to ensure the space is usable year-round — warm in winter, cool in summer. All work was carried out to building regulations compliance, so there are no issues down the line for the client.
Cladding
The exterior was finished in vertical cladding as specified by the client, giving the structure a clean, contemporary look that sits naturally in the garden. The cladding runs full-height across both wings, with the contrasting dark roof creating a sharp, finished aesthetic.
Rooflight Installation
A large flat rooflight was installed over the office room, flooding the interior with natural light throughout the day. Combined with the double French doors, the office wing feels bright and open — essential for a productive workspace.
Engineered Wood Flooring
Light oak engineered flooring was laid throughout the office space, adding warmth and a quality underfoot feel. Clean, practical, and a significant step above what you’d find in an off-the-shelf garden room.
Full Electrics
We installed a complete electrical fit-out — power sockets, lighting circuits, and consumer unit connection — giving the client a fully functional workspace with everything needed to plug in and work.
Doors & Glazing
The office wing was fitted with double French doors with full-height glazing, maximising natural light and providing easy garden access. The storage wing received a single door — secure, practical, separate. Both doors are double glazed.
The Result
A permanent, insulated, fully electrified garden room that gives the client a proper place to work — separated from the house, free from distraction, and built to last. No flat-pack. No compromises. Just a structure that was designed around how the client actually needed to use the space.
Garden rooms are one of the most cost-effective ways to add usable square footage to a property. This project is a strong example of what’s achievable with the right build quality behind it.
Thinking About a Garden Room?
We’ll design a space around how you want to use it — office, studio, gym, or extra living space — and build it properly from the ground up.
